 ● YUMINASHI 69MM COPPER HEAD GASKET | LIQUID COOLED (DOHC CBR150R HEAD) (12251-KPP-69C)
● YUMINASHI 69MM COPPER HEAD GASKET | LIQUID COOLED (DOHC CBR150R HEAD) (12251-KPP-69C)
● 69mm Special Reinforced 0.6mm copper gasket set for high compression engines with "the old" DOHC CBR150R head.
● This specific head gasket is a premium quality reinforced gasket, and this reinforcement is specifically located in the section at the cam chain side. Usually there isn't much material in this specific area, and you can see that YUMINASHI have introduced a wide rim on that area, to avoid coolant going out, and air going in the coolant circulation.
● The copper head gaskets have a much better sealing characteristic compared to the stock material used to produce the stock head gaskets which makes the copper head gaskets the preferred gaskets for engine tuners with high compression big bore setups, because the one thing no engine builder wants to worry about is a head gasket failure.
● Stock head gaskets hold up well enough under normal loads. But as compression ratios and combustion pressures go up, a stock head gasket may not be able to maintain a leak-free seal. And once hot combustion gasses start blowing past the gasket’s combustion armour, bad things begin to happen. The combustion armour cracks or burns through, compression is lost and the gasket fails. Or, oil start finding new ways to circulate inside the engine, often with negative consequences..
● For many years, serious racers have considered copper head gaskets to be the hot setup for high horsepower engines and most top fuel dragsters and funny cars run copper head gaskets because nothing else works.
※ KEEP IN MIND THAT A COPPER GASKETS SHOULD BE HEATED (ANNEALED) BEFORE INSTALLATION TO SOFTEN THEM, AND ENSURE A PROPER SEAL!
● Heating your gasket is called annealing, and this involves heating the gasket to a specific temperature (often described as red hot or dull cherry red) and then quenching it in water.
Annealing makes the copper more pliable, allowing it to conform to the mating surfaces and create a tight seal.
- WHY ANNEAL?
Copper gaskets, especially those used in high-performance applications like motorcycle engines or racing, can become hardened during manufacturing or when subjected to heat cycling. Annealing reverses this process, making the gasket soft and pliable again.
- HOW TO ANNEAL:
- Heating: Heat the copper gasket evenly with a torch (propane or acetylene) until it reaches a dull cherry red color.
- Quenching: Immediately quench the heated gasket in water. This rapid cooling helps to further soften the copper.
- Cleaning: After quenching, clean the gasket with a Scotch Brite pad or wire brush to remove any scale or oxidation that may have formed during the heating process.
- Optional: Some users recommend coating the annealed gasket with copper spray or high-temp aluminum paint before installation.
- BENEFITS:
Annealing ensures the gasket can properly compress and conform to the mating surfaces, resulting in a better seal. It also helps prevent leaks and potential damage to the engine or components.
